Delhi Public School Indirapuram organized the third edition of DPSI MUN 2018 on 13th and 14th October, 2018. The MUN with the motto ‘Cras Es Noster’ – The Future is Ours, was a great initiative to sensitize the students and enhance their knowledge about issues of global concern through healthy discussion and debate, thus fostering a culture of sensitivity and respect for all. The MUN witnessed participation of around 400 delegates from prestigious schools of Delhi  and the NCR.

The inaugural session commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the school Principal, Mrs. Meeta Rai and Vice Principal, Mrs. Sangeeta Hajela. The school Principal, Mrs. Meeta Rai welcomed the delegates, Executive Board Members and all the accompanying teachers. In her address, she emphasized that DPSI MUN is not only a wonderful platform for encouraging critical thinking, analytical skills, debating and promoting international peace and understanding, but also an excellent way of empowering the young minds and teaching them many a lesson in diplomacy. Commending the leadership ability and the organization skills of the students, she further urged them to be the change makers and torch-bearers of a golden tomorrow.

The MUN was declared open by Abhay Anand Sharma, Secretary General of DPSI MUN 2018. The Executive Board members were introduced by Aayushi Saxena, Under Secretary General, Content Development DPSI MUN 2018. Each of these members, well versed in international policies, norms and regulations was selected through a stringent process of interviews and written evaluations.

A well-synchronized instrumental music presentation by the students of the school set the mood for the conference.

The two-day MUN addressed various issues of international  relevance, in separate committees classified as UN General Assembly, UN Human Rights Council, UN Security Council, Assembly of European States, All India Stakeholders’ Meet and International Press. The Committees were assigned different venues to deliberate upon crucial matters of international concern like, the Situation in Venezuela, Terrorism and Human Rights, Relation between Centre and State, the Pre-World War-I situation and Reviewing the peace Keeping operations.

As the students representing 193 countries across the globe engaged into heated discussions and debates, firmly and fervently expressing their views, it was amazing to see the volume of information, depth of knowledge and profound thinking displayed by them.

The Valedictory Function for the event was organized on 14th October, 2018. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Padmashri Shovana Narayan, the world renowned Kathak exponent and Member DPS Society. The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the esteemed dignitaries.

On this occasion, the school choir presented a melodious rendition of the inspiring song ‘Tum Aasha Vishwas Hamare’ and the school Western Choir spread the beautiful message of peace with a heart touching rendition of the song, ‘Let there be Peace on Earth’. The school Dance Troupe also presented an electrifying performance on ‘Everybody Wants to Rule the World’ aptly depicting the message of world harmony and universal brotherhood.

To mark the culmination of the event a short film showcasing epic moments from the two days of MUN was screened and a Newsletter, ‘Crusade’, containing the essence of the proceedings was also distributed. The Chief Advisor for DPSI MUN 2018, Mr. Aditya Joshi and the Director General for DPSI MUN 2018, Mr. Shresth Kumar Singh presented their thoughts on the conference thereafter.

The Chief Guest Padmashri Shovana Narayan congratulated the school Principal, teachers and the students for the phenomenal success of the conference. Lauding the kind of detailing, enthusiasm and depth of discussions displayed at the conference, she expressed her belief that the students would surely be enriched after gaining an insight into the peace concerns and economics of the different countries. She ended her address by emphasizing that the need of the hour was to learn to co-exist together and urged the students to become aware of the crisis raging in different countries and resolve it with empathy.

The Chief Guest Padmashri Shovana Narayan and the school Principal, Mrs. Meeta Rai felicitated the delegates with trophies and certificates. They also presented mementoes to the teacher coordinators, Members of the Executive Board and the Secretariat. The Best Delegate Award in the General Assembly was bagged by the delegate representing Israel, while the Best Delegate Award in the Human Rights Council and Security Council was given to the delegates from USA and France respectively. In the Indian Stake Holder’s Meet, the Best Delegate Award was bagged by the delegate representing Praful Patel while the Best Delegate Award in the Assembly of the European States was bagged by the delegate representing Russia. Navarun Mallick from the International Press was declared the Best Journalist, Ishika Dahake the Best Cartoonist and Kartikey Grover the Best Photographer. Delhi Public School Noida was declared the Best Delegation in the event.

The mega event drew to a close with a vote of thanks by Anurag Gupta, the Charge D’ Affaires of DPSI MUN 2018.
