Fit India Movement

For any society or nation to progress, it is important that its citizens are physically fit. With a bid to carry forward our honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's unique initiative, the Fit India Movement, aimed to inculcate physical activity and sports in our daily routine, DPS Indirapuram celebrated Fitness Week in the third and fourth week of November 2019 in accordance with the guidelines issued by the CBSE. The purpose of the celebrations was to equip today’s generation to face the challenges of modern day life with optimism, energy and positivity.

To further this movement a plethora of activities were conducted for the Preprimary, Junior and Senior school children in the third and fourth week of November 2019. The students of the school participated in Mass P.T, Yoga, Aerobics and Free Hand Exercises organised during the morning assemblies from 19th to 26th November 2019. The Tiny Tots of the pre-primary wing participated in an energizing aerobic session on 19th November 2019 followed by a healthy sprouts salad making activity in class. They were told about the importance of including healthy food and milk in their diet and also familiarized with the harmful effects of junk food in an interactive session on 21st November 2019. The week long activities concluded on 23rd November 2019 with the children's visit to the school clinic where the school doctor emphasized on eating healthy food and maintaining good hygiene for staying fit.

The students of classes III to VII participated in physical activities like aerobics, yoga and martial arts on 21st November2019. A session on' Healthy Food and Fitness’ was conducted for the students of class V followed by a movie on healthy food and importance of regular exercise to remain fit and fine. A poster making competition was also conducted for the students of class VI and VII on 22nd NovembeÅ• 2019 during the fitness week on the theme "Fit body, Fit mind, Fit environment '. The school organised a tug of war competition for classes VI and VII on the day 6 of the fitness week i.e 23rd November 2019 to further the Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat initiative, wherein schools are expected to take up an indigenous game of their ‘Partner State 2’.

As a part of the program a yoga session was organised for the senior school students on 20th November 2019 where they were taught simple exercises and correct breathing techniques to remain healthy and agile. The students were also taught techniques for meditation to increase their concentration of mind and will power. A video showcasing the importance of having a balanced diet to gain proper nutrition was also screened to encourage the children to adopt healthy food habits.

The week long activities were thoroughly enjoyed by the students and instilled in them the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle to remain physically fit, mentally alert, energetic and disease free. The initiative helped to develop the sports quotient among all students to achieve higher levels of fitness, thereby enhancing their self esteem and confidence.
