PRE-PRIMARY (Nursery & Prep)
ACTIVITY REPORT FROM FEBRUARY 2015 TO OCTOBER 2015
Class: NURSERY

Picnic
A picnic was organised for the tiny tots of Nursery in the Junior Building of D.P.S. Indirapuram in the Month of February. The children were in high spirits and enjoyed their outing. The teachers had planned the event with funfilled activities for the children. The children participated enthusiastically in the games which involved fun and frolic. The children had brought food and snacks from their homes which they shared among themselves. This picnic was the most eventful occasion for the children which has left a marked impression on them.

Visit to the Library
A visit to the library was organised for the tiny tots of Nursery in the month of March. The aim was to acquaint them with the surroundings of the library and also inculcate reading habits in these little ones. The vast collection of books immediately attracted the children as the books were vibrant and filled with pictures. The teachers taught the children to maintain silence in the library. All in all it was an informative, educational and a fun visit to the library.

Visit to the Canteen
A visit to the school canteen was arranged for class Nursery in the month of March. The children were asked to bring Rs. 20/- to buy delicious food items from the canteen. The children were taught simple etiquettes like standing in a queue, waiting for one’s turn and of course sharing. The children were provided with a wide range of healthy and delicious food items to choose from. The children thoroughly enjoyed the visit to the Canteen.

Farewell Party
A farewell party was organised for the tiny tots on 27th March to mark the end of the session as Nursery children and move on to be smart Prep children. The students were asked to bring home made delicacies to be shared among friends and teachers.
The children played a lot of games and the day was filled with fun and frolic. The children had a gala time dancing. The teachers presented them with farewell cards wishing them all the best for their future endeavours.

Welcome Back
After the Summer Holidays, the tiny tots of nursery were welcomed back to school with fun activities designed by the teachers such as card coloring etc. in a conducive and friendly environment, helping the children settle back into the routine with ease. The children thoroughly enjoyed these activities and were very comfortable back at school.
“Teaching children to count is fine, but teaching them what counts is best.”

Saturday Activity
A magic show was organized for the children of nursery as part of their Saturday activity. They were completely awed by the magician who enthralled all with his bag of tricks and also picked children from the audience as volunteers due to which all she little ones were engaged till the very end and enjoyed themselves immensely.

Eid
The festival Eid was celebrated by the children of nursery through a card coloring activity as they were made aware of the festival and the various delicacies by their teachers. All in all, the day ended on a happy note

Friendship Day
The tiny tots of nursery celebrated friendship day with coloring and friendship band making activities as their teachers taught them the importance of friendship, encouraging them to make new friends and inculcate good values in them by reciting stories from the Panchatantra which portrayed about the cure value of friendship.

Independence Day
Hindi Recitation competition. Independence Day is one of the most memorable day in our Indian history. This day remind us of the untold sacrifice of the freedom fighters. This day was celebrated by the little ones of Nursery exceeding the spirit of patriotism. As a part of these celebrations on interclass “Hindi recitation” competition was conducted. The children came dressed as their favorite freedom fighters and spoke a few lines about them. The winners were awarded certificates of appreciation.

Germination Activity
A germination activity was organized for the children of nursery as part of their Saturday activity. They were asked to bring seeds by their teacher who taught them the process of germination, leading to the holistic development of each child. The children gained knowledge in a fun and hands on way.

Rakshabandhan
The joyful festival of RakshaBandhan show casing the innocence of the sacred bond between sibling (brother and sister) was celebrated by the little ones through fun filled activity of rakhi making of their favorite cartoon, Doremon! The children were absolutely thrilled and had a gala time

Janamashtami
When a person is devoted to something with complete faith, I unify his faith in that. Then, when his faith is completely unified, he gains the object of his devotion.
Bhagvad Gita
Janamashtami, which marks the birth of hindu God Lord Krishna was celebrated with enormous zeal & enthusiasm by the children of class prep.
Children came dressed as lord Krishna & his consort Radha in bright, elaborate costumes & jewellery. They also made mukuts (Crowns) with peacock feathers. They were also told the significance of Janamashtami which is to encourage good will and celebrate togetherness.
Janamasthami, the birth of Lord Krishna was celebrated with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm in the school by the tiny tots of Nursery. The children came dressed as Krishnas and Radhas transforming the entire place into vrindavan. The children were made aware about the customs and traditions followed in the Janmasthami celebrations. The children also had a photo session. The children decorated the Matki’s and also participated in the crown making activity.

Teacher’s Day
Teachers-A friend, philosopher and guide. Teacher’s day at DPS Indirapuram was celebrated with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm. The day began with the children being told about the achievements of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishan. The students were engaged in a card making activity with joy and excitement.

Plasticine Modelling Competition
Clay modelling is a highly creative activity that is enjoyed by kids and adults alike. Keeping this is mind, plasticine modelling competition was organised for the children of class Nursery. It was a perfect platform for the creative minds of the children to meet their colourful desires. The children created their own imaginary world of fruits, flowers, birds, and fishes and displayed them with pride. The motive of this competition was to stimulate the imagination of the children and enable them to give it a better shape.

Saturday Activity
A number of fun-filled activities were conducted for the children on Saturday. Story telling sessions were done in which the children were told various stories like Goldilocks and the three bears etc. The children were also made to enact the roles of Goldilocks and the bears which they thoroughly enjoyed. They also drew and coloured circles on a ladybird craft activity to recapitulate the numbers already done in the class.

Best out of Waste Competition
In order to explore the innovative instinct and creativity of the children, “Best out of waste competition” was conducted for the tiny tots of class Nursery. The children used their talent and imagination to make things out of waste. It was indeed a pleasure watching the products made by the tiny tots. Children made flower vases with plastic bottles, dolls were made out of shuttle cork etc. Innovation and creativity of the children were displayed who expressed their imagination, talent and artistic skills.

CLASS: PREP

Story Telling Competition
Story telling is a great means of transmitting ideas. It is an important part of early childhood education as it provides the necessary ingredients to broaden a child’s imagination.
Children relate to a story better than they relate to adults and keeping this in mind, a fascinating Story Telling Competition was organised at DPS Indirapuram on 18th February, 2015 where the children of Class Prep presented stories with great enthusiasm. This activity was based to boost self confidence in students and give wings to their imagination. Proper pronunciation with voice modulation were the highlights of the competition. The teachers apprised students about the morals of the story and how they affect us. At the same time, students were also encouraged to inculcate the habit of reading books. This activity helped the children to develop speaking skills and build their confidence in using the English language.

DRAWING & COLOURING COMPETITION
A drawing and colouring competition was held for the students of class Prep on 10th March 2015.
Different themes were given to the students like My Family, My School etc. in which they displayed their colouring skills, imagination and creativity. Through this activity the children expressed their thoughts and feelings and developed fine motor skills.

1st Day at DPS INDIRAPURAM
The New session for the Prep batch 2015-2016 commenced on the 7th April, 2014. The school was decorated with balloons and a wonderful atmosphere was especially created to make them feel secure and happy.
The teachers welcomed the children and made them thus feel secure in the new environment. The children were engaged in a welcome activity.

Colouring Competition
“The purest and most thoughtful minds are those which love colours the most.”
An interclass colouring competition was organised on 28th April, 2015 for the children of class Prep This activity was organised to explore and encourage creativity in children and offer them a platform to show their skill in colouring it also inspired children to think and work creatively and promoted artistic excellence.

Children participated enthusiastically in the competition. It was a difficult task thereafter for the class teacher to shortlist the winners. Children came up with amazing artwork. The artistically coloured sheets were a treat to the eyes.

Earth Day
“He that plants trees loves others more than himself”
Students of class Prep of DPS Indirapuram celebrated The Earth Day with a plethora of organised eco-activities. The children were explained about the importance of Earth Day and related activities were planned. To begin with a germination activity was conducted on 16th April, 2015. The children were involved in this activity and they were given a brief idea on how germination takes place. The children also made “Save the Earth” tag which they coloured and wore on their uniform. They also had a cleanliness drive in their class.

In order to make the young children realise the importance of getting out and interacting with nature and to feel the environmental influences, nature walks were organised for all the sections from 22nd April – 24th April to the neighbouring Swarn Jayanti Park. There, they participated in tree plantation. These activities helped students assimilate that our natural resources are limited and we desperately need to use when judiciously.

Parent’s Teacher’s Meet
“Tell me and I forget, Show me and I remember, Involve me and I understand.”
The first parent’s teacher’s meet of the academic session 2015-16 was organised on 2nd May, 2015. Anxious parents wanted to know about the children in general. The parents were provided with information about the curriculum and class room procedures. In general sense targets were set for improvements and parental involvement was sought in order to ensure the student’s success.

Disaster Management
Schools are the most important institutions influencing development of a country. Damage of property or loss of lives affects the development of a whole nation. In view of the above mentioned concern, a workshop was held in the auditorium on 29th June, 2015.
The aim was to develop an attitude, knowledge bank as well as skill through rigorous training to respond immediately and effectively to any hazards (i.e. fire, hostage, earthquake, etc.). A multiple point programme was chalked out to equip the teachers with disaster management tools and also for mock drills at regular intervals.

Importance of Rhymes & Stories in Early Childhood Education
A workshop on the importance of Rhymes & stories in early childhood education for the teachers of Pre-Primary wing was held on 25th June, 2015. Rhymes, songs, jingles, etc. form an integral part of early childhood curriculum which helps to develop children’s communication skills. It plays an important role in setting the tone of the classroom, developing skills and concepts and help children to make transitions. These also help to build vocabulary and develop listening and thinking skills.
Story telling also in an integral part of early childhood. It is perhaps the oldest form of teaching. The art lies in talking slowly with alternating rhythm, walking around and using hands for expression. Story telling works like a magical movement and the children sit enthralled with their mouths and eyes wide open. Perhaps the most innovative way of inspiring purposeful teaching is story telling.
No wonder after nourishment and shelter, stories are the things we need most in the world and we owe it to each other to tell stories.

Healthy Snacks
“GREATEST WEALTH IS HEALTH”
Serving healthy snacks to children is important to provide nutrition and support healthy eating habits and help to prevent diseases.
Snacks play a major role in children’s diets. In order to cultivate healthy eating habits in children, 10th July, 2015 was celebrated the healthy snacks day. It proved to be an effective way to fit extra nutrients and prevented overeating during mealtimes. It helped to inculcate healthy eating habits educated children about nourishing food. This way the children learned to prefer foods that are familiar and also learnt to share and care.

Cleanliness Drive
Kids have the power to change tomorrow. To teach our toddlers healthy habits and the importance of cleanliness, a cleanliness drive was organised in the pre primary section of the school. The main aim of the event was to make the children aware of the importance of the cleanliness in our lives. We want every citizen to learn to keep their vicinity clean. Clean up drive were actively conducted in the third week of July. Students tidied up the class rooms and surroundings. They went about cleaning the school premises and at the same time educating others about the importance of keeping our school and surroundings clean. Banners were made for the children. They were taught to practically apply the concept of 3 R’s- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle in our daily lives in order to save our mother earth for our future generations.

Eid
Celebrating multi farious cultures and festivals symbolise the unity of a secular country.
To commemorate the occasion of Eid, the students of pre-primary wing made cards for each other on 18th July 2015. The students strengthened about the spirit behind the festival. It also helped students to acquaint themselves with the religious significance, history, stories and legends associated with the tradition and customs. The children were also served ‘sewain’ on this occasion.

Independence Day

Independence is happiness.
Nothing is more precious than independence and liberty.
In our multicultural society, we need to install and enforce the universal values of brotherhood, tolerance peace, compassion, patriotism and solidarity in our children.
The Independence Day was celebrated in the pre-primary wing of DPS Indirapuram on 14th August. Gaiety and fervour marked the celebrations of this important day.
An impressive “Bharat Ke Veer” activity exuding the patriotic fervour was held on the eve of Independence Day. The students of our school were filled with patriotism and love for the country.
Short renditions by the children about their national leaders and freedom fighters were the highlights of the celebrations. The building was decorated with tricoloured balloons and kites which symbolised freedom. The students also coloured and decorated tricoloured badges which enlightened their spirits. The teachers spoke to children about imbibing the qualities of leadership and stressed on the importance of freedom.

Best out of Waste Competition

In order to make children aware of the uses of waste material and to give them a lesson on reducing the wastage of our resources , “Best out of Waste Competition” was organised on 27th July for class Prep. Little hands and imaginative minds came together in a creative burst of energy on this day.
Each student came to school armed with re-usable and re-cycled items like catons, cd’s, ice-cream sticks and much more. From these, they created some amazing objects to be displayed.
These type of activities help keep the children occupied constructively and encourage them to try out new things.

Vegetables Salad Day

A healthy outside starts from inside!
Vegetables are important part of healthy eating and provide a source of many nutrients. They provide health benefits and are important for the prevention of diseases.
Based on the above mentioned principle and in order to promote healthy eating habits in children, vegetable salad day was organised for the children of class Prep. on 21st August.
The children were asked to bring various vegetables and a salad was prepared in the class. The children were told about the importance of having nutritious food while preparing the same. They were also told to take precautions while preparing the salad. For instance, hands should be washed, all veg and fruits should also be washed before consuming. The children were thrilled and excited with this activity and relished the salad.

Rakshabandhan

To strengthen the bond between brothers and sisters, the festival of Raksha Bandhan was celebrated in the school premises on 27th August, 2015. The students made beautiful rakhi cards and rakhis for each other. It is a tried and tested way to make the children understand our Indian culture and its importance. Such celebrations in school teach students about our traditions.

Parent Teacher Meeting

A PTM was held for class prep on 02.09.2015 between the parents of the students and teachers. It is held to discuss the child’s progress at school and find solutions to academic and / or behavioural problems. It also focuses on student’s specific strengths and weaknesses in individual subjects and generalizing the level of inter-curricular skill & competences.
It also helps in keeping the parents informed about the child’s progress and develops a plan for the students future.

Teacher’s Day

Children celebrated teacher’s day by making cards for their teachers. They were told that the teacher’s day is celebrated to mark the birthday of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan (05-09-1888) who was our first president & a great teacher & philosopher.

Parents Teacher’s Meeting

“Your children need your presence more than your presents.” With a firm belief is the above philosophy, the Parents teachers meet was oraganised. The meeting generally focussed on learning, but apart from that special emphasis was laid on child’s behavioural and social development. The parents were given feedback about the child’s progress and areas of need. A general feedback and key suggestions were also taken from the parents in order to make learning a more fruitful experience for the children.

This activity was based to boost self confidence in students and give wings to their imagination. Proper pronunciation with voice modulation were the highlights of the competition. The teachers apprised students about the morals of the story and how they affect us. At the same time, students were also encouraged to inculcate the habit of reading books. This activity helped the children to develop speaking skills and build their confidence in using the English language.

DRAWING & COLOURING COMPETITION
A drawing and colouring competition was held for the students of class Prep on 10th March 2015.
Different themes were given to the students like My Family, My School etc. in which they displayed their colouring skills, imagination and creativity. Through this activity the children expressed their thoughts and feelings and developed fine motor skills.

1st Day at DPS INDIRAPURAM
The New session for the Prep batch 2015-2016 commenced on the 7th April, 2014. The school was decorated with balloons and a wonderful atmosphere was especially created to make them feel secure and happy.
The teachers welcomed the children and made them thus feel secure in the new environment. The children were engaged in a welcome activity.

Colouring Competition
“The purest and most thoughtful minds are those which love colours the most.”
An interclass colouring competition was organised on 28th April, 2015 for the children of class Prep This activity was organised to explore and encourage creativity in children and offer them a platform to show their skill in colouring it also inspired children to think and work creatively and promoted artistic excellence.

Children participated enthusiastically in the competition. It was a difficult task thereafter for the class teacher to shortlist the winners. Children came up with amazing artwork. The artistically coloured sheets were a treat to the eyes.

Earth Day
“He that plants trees loves others more than himself”
Students of class Prep of DPS Indirapuram celebrated The Earth Day with a plethora of organised eco-activities. The children were explained about the importance of Earth Day and related activities were planned. To begin with a germination activity was conducted on 16th April, 2015. The children were involved in this activity and they were given a brief idea on how germination takes place. The children also made “Save the Earth” tag which they coloured and wore on their uniform. They also had a cleanliness drive in their class.

In order to make the young children realise the importance of getting out and interacting with nature and to feel the environmental influences, nature walks were organised for all the sections from 22nd April – 24th April to the neighbouring Swarn Jayanti Park. There, they participated in tree plantation. These activities helped students assimilate that our natural resources are limited and we desperately need to use when judiciously.

Parent’s Teacher’s Meet
“Tell me and I forget, Show me and I remember, Involve me and I understand.”
The first parent’s teacher’s meet of the academic session 2015-16 was organised on 2nd May, 2015. Anxious parents wanted to know about the children in general. The parents were provided with information about the curriculum and class room procedures. In general sense targets were set for improvements and parental involvement was sought in order to ensure the student’s success.

Disaster Management
Schools are the most important institutions influencing development of a country. Damage of property or loss of lives affects the development of a whole nation. In view of the above mentioned concern, a workshop was held in the auditorium on 29th June, 2015.
The aim was to develop an attitude, knowledge bank as well as skill through rigorous training to respond immediately and effectively to any hazards (i.e. fire, hostage, earthquake, etc.). A multiple point programme was chalked out to equip the teachers with disaster management tools and also for mock drills at regular intervals.

Importance of Rhymes & Stories in Early Childhood Education
A workshop on the importance of Rhymes & stories in early childhood education for the teachers of Pre-Primary wing was held on 25th June, 2015. Rhymes, songs, jingles, etc. form an integral part of early childhood curriculum which helps to develop children’s communication skills. It plays an important role in setting the tone of the classroom, developing skills and concepts and help children to make transitions. These also help to build vocabulary and develop listening and thinking skills.
Story telling also in an integral part of early childhood. It is perhaps the oldest form of teaching. The art lies in talking slowly with alternating rhythm, walking around and using hands for expression. Story telling works like a magical movement and the children sit enthralled with their mouths and eyes wide open. Perhaps the most innovative way of inspiring purposeful teaching is story telling.
No wonder after nourishment and shelter, stories are the things we need most in the world and we owe it to each other to tell stories.

Healthy Snacks
“GREATEST WEALTH IS HEALTH”
Serving healthy snacks to children is important to provide nutrition and support healthy eating habits and help to prevent diseases.
Snacks play a major role in children’s diets. In order to cultivate healthy eating habits in children, 10th July, 2015 was celebrated the healthy snacks day. It proved to be an effective way to fit extra nutrients and prevented overeating during mealtimes. It helped to inculcate healthy eating habits educated children about nourishing food. This way the children learned to prefer foods that are familiar and also learnt to share and care.

Cleanliness Drive
Kids have the power to change tomorrow. To teach our toddlers healthy habits and the importance of cleanliness, a cleanliness drive was organised in the pre primary section of the school. The main aim of the event was to make the children aware of the importance of the cleanliness in our lives. We want every citizen to learn to keep their vicinity clean. Clean up drive were actively conducted in the third week of July. Students tidied up the class rooms and surroundings. They went about cleaning the school premises and at the same time educating others about the importance of keeping our school and surroundings clean. Banners were made for the children. They were taught to practically apply the concept of 3 R’s- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle in our daily lives in order to save our mother earth for our future generations.

Eid
Celebrating multi farious cultures and festivals symbolise the unity of a secular country.
To commemorate the occasion of Eid, the students of pre-primary wing made cards for each other on 18th July 2015. The students strengthened about the spirit behind the festival. It also helped students to acquaint themselves with the religious significance, history, stories and legends associated with the tradition and customs. The children were also served ‘sewain’ on this occasion.

Independence Day

Independence is happiness.
Nothing is more precious than independence and liberty.
In our multicultural society, we need to install and enforce the universal values of brotherhood, tolerance peace, compassion, patriotism and solidarity in our children.
The Independence Day was celebrated in the pre-primary wing of DPS Indirapuram on 14th August. Gaiety and fervour marked the celebrations of this important day.
An impressive “Bharat Ke Veer” activity exuding the patriotic fervour was held on the eve of Independence Day. The students of our school were filled with patriotism and love for the country.
Short renditions by the children about their national leaders and freedom fighters were the highlights of the celebrations. The building was decorated with tricoloured balloons and kites which symbolised freedom. The students also coloured and decorated tricoloured badges which enlightened their spirits. The teachers spoke to children about imbibing the qualities of leadership and stressed on the importance of freedom.

Best out of Waste Competition

In order to make children aware of the uses of waste material and to give them a lesson on reducing the wastage of our resources , “Best out of Waste Competition” was organised on 27th July for class Prep. Little hands and imaginative minds came together in a creative burst of energy on this day.
Each student came to school armed with re-usable and re-cycled items like catons, cd’s, ice-cream sticks and much more. From these, they created some amazing objects to be displayed.
These type of activities help keep the children occupied constructively and encourage them to try out new things.

Vegetables Salad Day

A healthy outside starts from inside!
Vegetables are important part of healthy eating and provide a source of many nutrients. They provide health benefits and are important for the prevention of diseases.
Based on the above mentioned principle and in order to promote healthy eating habits in children, vegetable salad day was organised for the children of class Prep. on 21st August.
The children were asked to bring various vegetables and a salad was prepared in the class. The children were told about the importance of having nutritious food while preparing the same. They were also told to take precautions while preparing the salad. For instance, hands should be washed, all veg and fruits should also be washed before consuming. The children were thrilled and excited with this activity and relished the salad.

Rakshabandhan

To strengthen the bond between brothers and sisters, the festival of Raksha Bandhan was celebrated in the school premises on 27th August, 2015. The students made beautiful rakhi cards and rakhis for each other. It is a tried and tested way to make the children understand our Indian culture and its importance. Such celebrations in school teach students about our traditions.

Parent Teacher Meeting

A PTM was held for class prep on 02.09.2015 between the parents of the students and teachers. It is held to discuss the child’s progress at school and find solutions to academic and / or behavioural problems. It also focuses on student’s specific strengths and weaknesses in individual subjects and generalizing the level of inter-curricular skill & competences.
It also helps in keeping the parents informed about the child’s progress and develops a plan for the students future.

Children celebrated teacher’s day by making cards for their teachers. They were told that the teacher’s day is celebrated to mark the birthday of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan (05-09-1888) who was our first president & a great teacher & philosopher.

Parents Teacher’s Meeting

“Your children need your presence more than your presents.” With a firm belief is the above philosophy, the Parents teachers meet was oraganised. The meeting generally focussed on learning, but apart from that special emphasis was laid on child’s behavioural and social development. The parents were given feedback about the child’s progress and areas of need. A general feedback and key suggestions were also taken from the parents in order to make learning a more fruitful experience for the children.
