OUR CHILDREN LIGHT UP OUR LIVES!

In 2020, the world experienced a storm, a ravaging storm, the Covid-19. No one could have ever imagined its devastating and far-reaching impact. Everything came to a standstill…a halt. We lost our hope, our positivity, our happiness, and our smile. Gloom took over the world and the heavy clouds of uncertainty hovered in the sky. Just then the superheroes of our houses, our little angels took the forefront with their most efficacious weapon – their smile! An efficacious and sanative smile that acted like the sunshine vitamin.

Remember, our children saw it all too. It started with their haven – their school! Schools were shut down and their friends were taken away. All recreational activities and other social outlets were now far beyond their reach. In the blink of an eye, kids were expected not only to adapt to an online learning mode but also do well. Wasn’t this challenging for them too!  And then came more …they saw their families struggling, their parents losing their jobs and the most dreadful…loss of a loved one. But our kids braved them all.

It won’t be incorrect to say that children were amongst the worst hit but they bounced back with a covetous resilience as if proving the general adage that kids are the happiest and the most optimistic. Our kids taught us that the darkest hour is just before dawn. As adults, we have much to learn from our kids – how to be adaptable, how to be happier in the face of adversity, how to find our own reasons to smile, and how not to let immediate situations and fear of the future take over our present.

It is rightly said, ‘A child has a special way of adding joy to every day.’ Children appreciate the small things in life and understand that joy can be found anywhere. They brought our childhood back with their impeccable ways…the games that lay stacked in corners were back in sight, oldies echoed in each house, the aroma of the new recipes, our little ones tried, made the air fragrant. Children started lending a helping hand in the kitchen, they realised and appreciated all our efforts just to brighten up our spirit. They reinvented the world for us. Our little ones taught us to live in the present- a learning for all adults to imbibe. They made us realise that showing the brave front in tumultuous times often leads to success.

Our children are like sunflowers; they chase light and happiness and they bloom, rain or shine. They empower others with their zeal towards life. Let us be like our children, happy and carefree.

Indeed, our children light up our lives.
