DPS Indirapuram celebrated its Annual Day on 11th, 12th & 13th August 2018, by staging the famous Broadway Musical, ‘Mary Poppins’. Directed by the renowned theatre exponent, Mr. George Pulinkala, this musical extravaganza portrayed the universal theme of love and camaraderie. Mr. Andrew Hoffland, the well-known voice over artist and television personality was the Assistant Director for the great event.

The Chief Guest for the occasion on 11th August, 2018 was Mr. V.K. Shunglu, Chairman DPS Society and Chairman DPS Indirapuram. The occasion was graced by Mr. Hardayal Singh, Member Managing Committee DPS Indirapuram as the Guest of Honour for the day. Mrs. Santosh Bansal, Pro-Vice Chairperson DPS Indirapuram presided over the function on 11th August, 2018. The other dignitaries who were present on the occasion were Mrs. Shunglu, Mr. Viresh and Mrs. Preeta Mathur, Mrs. Geeta Shankar, former Headmistress DPS Indirapuram, Ms. Indira Kohli, Principal DPS Gautam Budh Nagar, Mr. Akhilesh Chaturvedi, Principal DPS Maruti Kunj, Ms. Vibha Singh, Principal DPS Rohini, Mrs. Pallavi Upadhyay, Principal DPS R.N. Extension, Mrs. Seema Kaur, Principal Pacific World School and Mrs. Poonam Chaubey, Principal Kaushalya World School.

The Chief Guest on 12th August, 2018 was Mr. Ranbir Singh, Regional Officer CBSE Dehradun. Other esteemed guests present on that day were Mrs. Santosh Bansal, Pro-Vice Chairperson DPS Indirapuram, Ms. Aditi Misra, Principal DPS Gurgaon, Mr. V.K. Kuriakose, Principal St. Thomas School Indirapuram, Mr. Arunabh Singh, Principal Nehru World School, Mrs. Santvna Thadani Vice Principal DPS Gurgaon and Ms. Rita Sen, former Principal DPS Rohini.

The Chief Guest on 13th August, 2018 was Mr. Aamir Raza Husain, well known Theatre Exponent, Actor and Director. The occasion was graced by Mr. Promod Rawal, Vice Chairperson Managing Committee DPS Indirapuram and Dr. Sudipta Ghose, Member Managing Committee DPS R.N. Extension as the Guests of Honour. Mrs. Santosh Bansal Pro-Vice Chairperson DPS Indirapuram presided over the function. Other eminent luminaries present on the occasion were, Ms. Jyoti Gupta, Principal DPS Ghaziabad, Ms. Surjeet Khanna, Principal DPS Greater Faridabad, Ms. Manju Rana, Principal Seth Anandram Jaipuria School, Mr. Gaurav Bedi, Principal Gurukul The School, Ms. Tanuja Sharma, Member Managing Committee DPS Indirapuram, Mr. Brian Silas, the noted Pianist, Mr. and Mrs. I.D Gupta, Ms. Neha Bansal, Mr. Virendra Sachdeva, Director T-series and Mr. Arun Kumar, Senior General Manager Marketing, T-series. 

The school Principal Mrs. Meeta Rai welcomed the guests into the magical and memorable realm of music and dance. Speaking about the choice of the play ‘Mary Poppins’ for the Annual Function, she emphasized that the school believed in the magic of love, kindness and friendship that could transform the lives and attitudes of the people all around. Expressing her pride for the students of the school who had worked so hard to perfect this challenging play, she said that the best outcome of such an event is that the children not only learn to work in a team, develop self-confidence, hone their talents but also enjoy themselves thoroughly. To mark the occasion, a  brochure on ‘Mary Poppins’ was also released by the Chief Guest Mr. V.K. Shunglu, the school Principal Mrs. Meeta Rai and the other distinguished guests present on the occasion. A PowerPoint presentation highlighting the school’s achievements in the session 2017-18 was also screened thereafter.

The school reception and foyer area were resplendently decorated with Mary Poppins Memorabilia like the magical umbrella of Mary Poppins, her flower adorned hat and vibrant murals which aptly recreated the setting of the play. An Art Exhibition showcasing the paintings of the students, giving the guests a glimpse of their creative talent, was also put up.

The auditorium came alive with more than 600 students participating in this grand spectacle, who left the audience spell bound  with their theatrical skills, subtly reminding the audience of the ‘Spoonful of Magic’ required in our lives to transform it from the ordinary to the extraordinary. The play highlighted the quintessential human values of love and patience giving all a better understanding of human relationships.

The magnificent stage projections, laser lights, colourful costumes, grand theatrical effects, mingled with an irresistible story line, evergreen songs, foot-tapping dance numbers and astonishing stagecraft added to the magical effect transporting the audience into a world of enchantment and wonder.

The Chief Guest, Mr. V.K. Shunglu congratulated the school Principal, teachers and students for putting up a grand show, especially in such a short span of time. Commending the children for the long hours of practice and dedication put in by them, he emphasized that the show was indeed a result of their love and labour. He further urged them to keep working together as a team and bond closer together like a family.

The Chief Guest on 12th August, 2018 Mr. Ranbir Singh in his address, expressed his happiness at being a part of this gala event.  Lauding the school principal and the teachers for giving the students such a holistic experience, he urged the parents to give their children the most precious gift of ‘Time’ and imbibe in them a deep sense of pride for their culture, customs and civilization. He also spoke about the vital bond between the pupils, parents and the principal – which was imperative for the welfare and development of the future generation.  

The Chief Guest on 13th August, 2018 Mr. Aamir Raza Husain expressed his amazement at the sea of talent that he witnessed during the show. Commending the children for their brilliant performance and command over the English Language, he urged the students to consider taking up theatre as a profession. He also congratulated the school Principal for conceptualizing this fantastic show. Emphasizing that theatre teaches many valuable life skills like working under pressure, delivering on time and doing their best, he motivated the children to imbibe these skills further on their journey to success.

The grand extravaganza came to an end with a standing ovation by the audience followed by a vote of thanks proposed by the school Vice Principal Mrs. Sangeeta Hajela on 11th August, 2018 and the school Head Mistresses Mrs. Priya John on 12th August, 2018 and Mrs. Eram Abedi on 13th August, 2018.
