DPS Indirapuram participated in the eco-friendly mega initiative ‘Kachra Samadhan Mahotsav 2018’ held at Ramleela Ground, Kavi Nagar, Ghaziabad from 21st April, 2018 to 23rd April, 2018.

The three-day campaign was a first of its kind initiative taken by the Ghaziabad Administration under the leadership of the District Magistrate, Ms. Ritu Maheshwari. With a vision of making the city clean and green and to spread awareness about effective and eco-friendly waste management, waste segregation and recycling, the initiative witnessed a wide variety of programmes in its three-day duration.

A delegation of 200 students and 35 teachers participated in the Green Marathon held on 22nd April, 2018 on the Hindon Elevated Road. The rally was flagged off by Ms. Ritu Maheshwari, District Magistrate, Ghaziabad. The students, adorned in their white T-shirts and caps with a motto of effective Waste Management, covered a distance of 5 kms on the road. It was evident that the participating students were conscious about the need to keep the city, its surroundings and its infrastructure clean and free from garbage.  Mr. Anil Agarwal, Member Rajya Sabha, the honoured guest for the occasion lauded the students’ contribution in saving the environment by their baby steps in this direction.

The school also took part in events like Best-Out-of-Waste, Nukkad Natak, Poster and Collage Making and Eco Melody and bagged the 1st Runners Up Award in ‘Best-Out-of Waste’ category. The students displayed their innovative ideas by turning wastes like juice bottles and cans into a 4 in 1 utility item that could be converted into a stool, a writing table, a life jacket and a life-saving boat. They also created planters, pen holders, jewellery boxes, calendars, vases etc. by using old plastic pots, egg trays, shoe boxes and shoes, discarded CD’s and electric bulbs.

The school won another laurel in the Art-Installation event. The Art Installation endeavoured to transform the scrap metal into an artistic creation. Rejected metal pieces retrieved from the school junkyard were creatively moulded, welded and joined together innovatively to create a ‘Horse’- a symbol of energy, dynamism and movement.

The school team presented a mellifluous rendition in the Eco-Melody category. The instruments used for the event were created by the students using scraps like coconut shells, tin drums, broken pots and wooden boxes.

Events like ‘Poster Making’ and ‘Collage Making’ saw mass participation of the students expressing their concern on how human greed has led to overuse and overexploitation of various resources. Through their vivid and colourful expressions, they emphasized on the critical importance of following the ‘Reduce- Recycle and Reuse’ mode of lifestyle to save the planet. In the collages that they created on ‘Swatchh Bharat’ the enthusiastic students projected their country in a way they would want to be – Clean and Green. Working in teams these young crusaders displayed their awareness about the problems of environmental degradation and the solutions they have towards keeping their Bharat Swatchh.

A team of twelve students also participated in a Nukkad Natak depicting mankind’s callous attitude towards mother earth and its resources. The students through their performance entreated the people to practice eco-friendly ways in their day-to-day lives.

Stalls were put up by schools for exhibition on 22nd and 23rd April, 2018. Gen. V.K.Singh, Member of Parliament inaugurated the exhibition. The school also displayed creatively designed products like Jewellery, Chandelier, Baskets and Bags made by the students and teachers by recycling and reusing waste. The stall drew a lot of attention and applause from the visitors and guests.

The school, with its active involvement and participation in the campaign has taken a step forward to ‘Mission Clean Ghaziabad’ and remains committed to the cause by ensuring that awareness is created among its young  ambassadors.
