DPS Indirapuram celebrated ‘Funathon 2018’, the Annual Function for its Nursery and Preparatory Wing on 27th & 28th February, 2018. The theme of the presentation was celebrating the importance of games and participation in sporting events. The event witnessed mass participation as more than 900 children from the Nursery and Preparatory Wing of the school presented this spectacular show.

The Chief Guest on 27th February, 2018 was Mr. Shankar Sahney, the renowned singer and famous stage artist who has to his credit several video albums and live shows in India and abroad. The Chief Guest on 28th February, 2018 was Ms. Nidhi Bansal, Pro-Vice Chairperson, Pacific World School. Both the functions were presided over by Mrs. Santosh Bansal, Pro-Vice Chairperson DPS Indirapuram. Other eminent guests present on the occasion were, Ms. Rachna Pandit, Principal, Pacific World School, Mrs. Pallavi Upadhyay, Principal DPS R.N. Extn., Mrs. Sahney and Mr. and Mrs. Angrish.

The programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the honoured guests. The school Principal Mrs. Meeta Rai welcomed all into this realm of colour, music and festivities. Expressing her deep sense of pride for the youngest members of the DPS family, she spoke about the school’s constant endeavours to provide a platform and conducive learning environment for not only drawing out the innate talent of those who enters its portals, but also gently polishing, nurturing and honing it to its optimum level.

In keeping with the theme – ‘Funathon’, the school foyer was a treat for the eyes, decorated with colourful cut outs of players and tableaux depicting cricket pavilions, football and hockey goal posts, gymnastic and martial art arenas. A special nook in the foyer was dedicated to the popular games of the yesteryears like pitthu, marbles, hop-scotch and hide and seek.

The celebrations commenced on Day 1 with a nostalgic video presentation, ‘Sweet memories’, showcasing the carefree childhood years of fun and frolic which are spent playing games with friends or simply running about in the playground. Another presentation capturing memorable moments from the making of this gala event was screened on 28th February, 2018, giving the parents a glimpse into the tireless efforts behind the success of this show.

The school auditorium came alive with a riot of colours as the little ones resplendently dressed in vibrant costumes and sports attire transported the audience into a world of sheer joy and bliss. The festivities began with a melodious welcome song by the Choir children – ‘Sing together’ celebrating the joy of unity and team work. The little ones then presented scenes from Cricket, Soccer, Hockey, Kabbadi, Table Tennis, Basket Ball, Badminton, Wrestling and Boxing matches, aptly capturing the spirit of triumph and mood of jubilation through well synchronized and rhythmic dances. As the show progressed, they continued to mesmerize the audience with their grace, agility, confidence and creativity. The children paid tribute to the great sporting legends through their penultimate presentation - ‘Hall of Fame’.

The celebrations culminated with the Grand Finale, wherein the children captured the true essence of sportsmanship through a melodious song, ‘Aur Khelna Chahte Hai’.

The Chief Guest, Mr. Shankar Sahney on 27th February, 2018, commended the school Principal and the teachers for conceiving such a breath taking show. He also lauded the children for presenting such a grand spectacle of music, dance and creativity. Mrs. Nidhi Bansal, the Chief Guest on 28th February, 2018 hailed the programme as a marvelous show and complimented the school Principal, teachers and children for their confidence, composure and flawless coordination.

The grand musical extravaganza drew to a close with a vote of thanks proposed by the Junior School Headmistress, Mrs. Rohini Duggal.

‘Funathon 2018’ was indeed a memorable and ecstatic expression of the innocence, exuberance and effervescence of the tiny tots and a celebration of the joy of playing, and evolving together.
