Delhi Public School Indirapuram hosted the CBSE Heritage India Quiz 2017 (City & Regional finals) on 6th February, 2018. The CBSE Heritage India Quiz is an initiative taken by the CBSE to help the younger generation develop an appreciation for the rich cultural heritage of India and sensitize them towards preserving this legacy.
The event was graced by Mr. Ajay Poonia, a renowned face in the world of Quiz, TV Anchor and Author as the Quizmaster for this prestigious event. 65 schools from the Northern region of the country (including Delhi, NCR, the states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Uttaranchal) participated in this mega event.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the sacred lamp. The school Principal, Mrs. Meeta Rai welcomed the guests and participating teams into this realm of knowledge and enrichment. Expressing her gratitude to CBSE for giving the school an opportunity to host this grand event, she fervently hoped that it would be a great learning experience for all. Hailing, India as a cradle of many communities and ethnic groups, she spoke about the diverse Indian customs, traditions, dances, architectural forms, music, and cuisine, which have left their profound mark on the world. She also urged the students to become responsible caretakers of their cultural heritage and pass it unspoiled to the future generations.
On this occasion, the school Choir greeted the gathering with a traditional welcome song, ‘Swagatam Shubh Swagatam’ and the school dance troupe presented a glimpse of India’s rich artistic heritage through a rhythmic tribal dance typical to the Chattisgarh region of the country. The Quiz session commenced thereafter with Mr. Ajay Poonia briefing the participating teams about the various rounds, rules and regulations pertaining to the Quiz.
The preliminary round comprising 25 questions without any negative marking was a written round after which 6 teams – Bal Bharti Public School Noida, Cambridge School Noida, Delhi Public School Ranipur, Vishwabharti Public School Noida, Sun Valley International School Ghaziabad and Ryan International School Noida, were shortlisted for the city finals. The city finals consisted of three rounds- ‘the pyramid scheme, jeopardy, risk or reward’ and led to the elimination of two teams.
Bal Bharti Public School Noida and Cambridge School Noida qualified for the Regional finals. The other two regional finalists to have previously qualified were - DAV Public School, Dehradun and Jaswant Modern Senior Secondary School Dehradun.
The Regional Finals witnessed the clash of Titans as the four regional finalists battled it out enthusiastically, pressing the buzzer and answering the queries posed by the quiz master, in a bid to outshine each other and secure their place at the National Semifinals. The two teams to qualify for the National Semifinals were Bal Bharti Public School Noida and Cambridge School Noida.
The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Ms. Ritu Pant, the Senior School Academic Coordinator.
The CBSE Heritage India Quiz was a greatly enriching and exhilarating experience. It was indeed a delight to see the ignited young minds responding so promptly and confidently to the challenging questions.
