Delhi Public School Indirapuram celebrated Christmas in a Special Assembly on 21st December, 2017. The occasion was presided over by Mrs. Santosh Bansal, Pro-Vice Chairperson, DPS Indirapuram. Other esteemed dignitaries present were Mrs. Rachna Pandit, Principal, Pacific World School, Mrs. Pallavi Upadhyay, Principal DPS R.N.Extension, Mrs. Susan Jacob, Principal, St. Francis School, Indirapuram, Mr. V.K. Kuriakose, Principal, St. Thomas School Indirapuram, Mr. Sanjay Singh, Counseller, Indirapuram, Father Gineesh Puliyoratha, Parish Priest, Velankanni Matha Shrine, Mr. S.K.Rai and Mr. and Mrs. Silas.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the candles by the honoured guests. The school Principal Mrs. Meeta Rai welcomed all and thanked the guests for sparing their valuable time. Speaking on the occasion, she said that the school has always endeavoured to imbibe the spirit of secularism in the children by celebrating every festival with equal fervor and gusto. Sharing the true essence of Christmas, she urged the children to celebrate Christmas by touching the lives of the less fortunate and experience the joy of giving, sharing and caring.
In keeping with the mood of festivity, the school auditorium was resplendently adorned with festoons, bells, wreaths, Christmas trees and fairy lights. The soft sound of carols permeated the air, as the School Choir ushered the magic of Christmas with their mellifluous rendition of enchanting carols.
A heart touching movie on the ‘Joy of Giving’, heralded the spirit of Christmas by showcasing the message of goodwill and peace. The students of the school presented the Grand Christmas Pageant portraying the story of Christmas. They transported the audience back in time by vividly depicting various scenes from the ‘Nativity play’, such as ‘The birth of Jesus in a Manger, the visitation of Angels spreading the message of Jesus’s birth to the shepherds and the Wise Men following the star. The story was beautifully woven with age-old carols like ‘Silent Night’, ‘While Shepherds’, ‘Mary’s Boy Child… ‘Oh Little Town of Bethlehem’ and many more. The play aptly captured the true meaning of Christmas, giving the message of reaching out to those in need and kindling the fire of charity and hospitality throughout the year.
An exuberant dance on the evergreen ‘Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and a Christmas dance on ‘Feliz Navidad’ celebrating the joys of the season, marked the culmination of the grand Christmas pageant. As the auditorium reverberated with spirit of rejoicing, Santa Claus dancing on the notes of ‘Jingle Bells’, carrying his bag of goodies further added to the ambience of merry making and gaiety.
Father Gineesh, Parish Priest, Velankanni Matha Shrine, blessed the school and urged the children to celebrate Christmas in its true spirit by learning the lesson of humility.
The celebrations ended with a vote of thanks proposed by the school Headmistress, Ms. Priya John.
