Workshop on Positive Parenting

09 Dec 2017 School Admin

Delhi Public School Indirapuram in association with Study Vault organized a workshop on Positive Parenting for the parents of the students enrolled with the same on 9th December, 2017. The workshop was conducted by Ms. Jyotsna Bhardwaj, a renowned counsellor and a motivational speaker who focused on the challenges faced while parenting in today’s digital times.

Ms. Jyotsna Bhardwaj commenced the workshop on a beautiful note entreating every parent to enjoy the beautiful journey of discovering the different potential and uniqueness each child possesses. Emphasizing that each parent is like a gardener under whose care the child blossoms, she urged them to nurture their children with not only the right resources but also patience and empathy. She passionately appealed to the parents to change their perspectives and realize that children will grow in accordance to their own law, accept both their strength and weaknesses, and reassure them of their unconditional support.

Sharing some valuable tips on parenting, Ms. Bhardwaj focused upon, open communication with the children, giving them the right push and frequent sharing of their dreams and aspirations. She said that the greatest responsibility of the parents lies in teaching them to be responsible with latest devices, successfully handle peer pressure and combat stress. She further requested the parents to identify the causes of misbehavior and remove it, let go of the struggle for power and the ‘I Know It All’ attitude.

Ms.  Jyotsna engaged the parents by sharing anecdotes from her own life and asked them to share their own experiences of parenting. She concluded the workshop with a motivating video, ‘The Push’, urging the parents to trust their own parenting instincts of how much to hold or let go. Ending her fervent appeal, she reminded all of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, wherein every child should be given safety, security, self-esteem and love for self-actualization.

The workshop was a truly enriching experience for the parents as it gave them many valuable insights for handling the children in their sensitive years by understanding their psyche, bonding together and helping them cope with anger, stress and competition.
