Delhi Public School Indirapuram organized a Special Farewell Assembly on 9th November, 2016 to mark the culmination of the 10th Indo-German Students’ Exchange Programme 2016. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Prof. Ashok K.Chawla, Chief Scientist and Head TSD CSIR – NISCAIR, New Delhi. The Programme was also graced by Mr. Carl Jochen Dill, Head of Educational Services, Max Mueller Bhavan as the Special Guest of Honour and Ms. Hema Gupta, Project Manager Educational Services, Max Mueller Bhavan, as the Guest of Honour. The Programme was presided over by Mrs. Santosh Bansal, Pro-Vice Chairperson DPS Indirapuram.

The celebration commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the esteemed guests. The school Principal Mrs. Meeta Rai welcomed the luminaries and thanked the host parents for extending a warm reception to the German students.

On this occasion, a humorous skit ‘English Bol Desi Dhol’ was presented by the students of the school on ‘The Teaching of English as a Foreign Language’, highlighting the misuse and mispronunciation of English words by foreign learners. The skit depicted the plight of an English language teacher with a classful of students for whom English is a foreign language. The humour arising due to the mispronunciation of words and the mayhem caused by similar sounding words  entertained the audience thoroughly, leaving them in raptures. The skit also gave an insight into the technical difficulties in mastering the language due to linguistic differences.

The Chief Guest Prof. Ashok K. Chawla, in his address lauded the school Principal and Management for encouraging trans-cultural learning. Emphasizing on the importance of learning English language in today’s time of globalization, he said that such exchange programmes play an important role in bridging the linguistic barriers.
