PANEL DISCUSSION AT DPS INDIRAPURAM

Delhi  Public School Indirapuram organized a panel discussion for Class XI on 4^th November 2016 which was one of the activities conducted as a part of the British Council’s ongoing ISA project ‘ Teaching English as a foreign language in India and Germany’ undertaken by the school in the session 2016-2017.  The four panels comprised of eight Indian students and a German student each. Each panel was assigned a particular topic related to the project.

 As the proceedings began the panelists enthusiastically deliberated upon varied topics like’ English language-weaving the social fabric’, ‘Fluency in English-a treasure trove of opportunities’, ‘English language-deepening chasm; creating divide ’and ‘English language- no more the queen’s language’. The energetic discussions and arguments clearly brought out the far-reaching social implications of the English language and its importance as a link language in today’s times.

As the panelists presented their opinions, they also poignantly pointed out the discrimination arising out of linguistic differences and language barriers. The panel discussion was followed by a question hour wherein the students posed a number of queries related to the topic.

The discussion was an extremely fruitful one as it gave a deep insight into the practical difficulties faced by native learners while using a foreign language and its far-reaching consequences.
